Dr. David Mendelsohn
Dr. David Mendelsohn has been a Family Medicine physician since 2002, focusing mostly on preventative medicine, and managing common disease states such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression/anxiety, and musculoskeletal injuries. He graduated from the University of Rochester, with a double major in Biology and Psychology, and a minor in Ancient Civilizations. Dr. Mendelsohn went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
It was his love of clinical rotations that made him realize that his calling was Family Medicine. He underwent residency training at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC and this is also where he fell for fellow resident, the future Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn.
Upon completing his training, he ended up joining a brand new practice with Novant Health in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte. While always grateful for the leadership experience, this is also where Dr. Dave fully recognized the challenges of trying to provide or receive medical care when a person is part of a large system. He constantly found himself wishing he had more time with patients both in the office and in between visits through email or phone calls. Dr. Dave views the patient/doctor relationship as a team relationship and therefore wants to make sure his “teammates” know as much as they can about their own bodies and illnesses.
When he is not providing patient care, he loves spending time with his two boys and his wife (and now boss) Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn. You can also find him either cheering for the Tar Heels and Panthers or on the lake fishing.

I have been under the care of Dr. Dave for more than 10+ years. I could not see myself seeing another PCP. Dr. Dave sees me as a person, not a number. He listens to me and never shames me. We talk through things and we make a plan and set goals for me to be the healthiest I can be…and consistently follow up. I am SO grateful to Dr. Dave, Dr. Jessica and the entire practice for their compassion, kindness, knowledge and for being so “real”. Best experience with a doctor and entire office that I’ve ever had. Looking forward to exploring the skincare/medspa side of the practice soon too!
Unlike the other Health Care "businesses" in Charlotte, New South Family Medicine is more interested in my well being that "seeing the next patient quickly". They are responsive to my needs and spend the time necessary to take care of my issues no matter who might be waiting in the waiting room. They are a breath of fresh air in the medical community.
I have been a patient of Dr Dave’s for 8 years and would give him 10 stars if I could! Doc is a great person and a great doctor. He’s very personable, professional and an expert in finding the right care for everything I bring him. He’s always makes himself available, makes time for appts when needed, and is actively present during our appts. He patiently listens to what I’m experiencing, never rushes me, and comes up with a great care plan for every situation. He also makes sure to explain everything thoroughly and ensures I’m comfortable with the plan before moving forward.
