Our Program

Dr. David Mendelsohn

Hormone imbalances and insurance:

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a unique practice and is considered a form of integrative medicine. Insurance companies do not recognize BHRT as medically necessary. BHRT at New South Family Medicine and MedSpa is considered elective, like aesthetic procedures or plastic surgery. All providers engaged with BHRT are certified.

Lab Work: {SCHEDULE FIRST}

At New South Family Medicine and MedSpa, we provide affordable self-pay lab testing for BHRT through LabCorp. The cost for your hormone blood panel is $75, which you pay each time you come in for lab work. Please note that we do not submit costs to your insurance company or LabCorp on your behalf, nor do we contract with LabCorp to submit through your insurance company. If you wish to seek reimbursement, you may submit a request directly to your insurance company, but we cannot guarantee it.

Payment and Reimbursement:

Payment in full is required at the time of service. You can request a receipt as evidence of your treatment, which is solely your responsibility. We do not submit for reimbursement with your insurance company to provide a letter with diagnosis codes for BHRT lab work associated with BHRT. If you have a Health Savings Account, you can use it to pay for your treatment and lab work.

The hormone program and DPC members:

Our BHRT program is distinct from the direct primary care practice at New South Family Medicine and MedSpa. Patients receiving hormone therapy elsewhere or through the DPC membership practice at New South Family Medicine and MedSpa are not eligible for rate adjustments. If you opt for treatment with our BHRT providers, it is a separate service from the primary care membership program, and you must pay fees on the day of your visit.
