Dr. David Mendelsohn
Since 2002, Dr. David Mendelsohn has been practicing as a Family Medicine physician, with a focus on preventative medicine and managing common disease states such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression/anxiety and musculoskeletal injuries. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of, where he double majored in Biology and Psychology and minored in Ancient Civilizations. Dr. Mendelsohn then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School Medicine.
His passion for clinical rotations led him to discover his true calling Family Medicine. He completed his residency training at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, where he also developed feelings for his fellow resident, Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn.
After finishing his training, he joined a new practice with Novant Health in Charlotte's Steele Creek area. Although he appreciated the leadership experience, Dr. Dave realized the difficulties of providing or receiving medical care within a large system. He wished he had more time to with patients in the office and through email or phone calls. Dr. Dave believes that the patient/doctor relationship is a team relationship and wants to ensure that his "teammates" are well-informed about their bodies and illnesses.
In his free time, he enjoys being with his family, including his wife Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn is also his boss, and their two sons. He also likes to watch and support the Tar Heels and Panthers, or go fishing on the lake.
I have been under the care of Dr. Dave for more than 10+ years. I could not see myself seeing another PCP. Dr. Dave sees me as a person, not a number. He listens to me and never shames me. We talk through things and we make a plan and set goals for me to be the healthiest I can be…and consistently follow up. I am SO grateful to Dr. Dave, Dr. Jessica and the entire practice for their compassion, kindness, knowledge and for being so “real”. Best experience with a doctor and entire office that I’ve ever had. Looking forward to exploring the skincare/medspa side of the practice soon too!
Unlike the other Health Care "businesses" in Charlotte, New South Family Medicine is more interested in my well being that "seeing the next patient quickly". They are responsive to my needs and spend the time necessary to take care of my issues no matter who might be waiting in the waiting room. They are a breath of fresh air in the medical community.
I have been a patient of Dr Dave’s for 8 years and would give him 10 stars if I could! Doc is a great person and a great doctor. He’s very personable, professional and an expert in finding the right care for everything I bring him. He’s always makes himself available, makes time for appts when needed, and is actively present during our appts. He patiently listens to what I’m experiencing, never rushes me, and comes up with a great care plan for every situation. He also makes sure to explain everything thoroughly and ensures I’m comfortable with the plan before moving forward.
