CoolPeel is a laser skin resurfacing treatment that uses the SmartXide Tetra Co2 laser, manufactured by Deka. This fractional ablative treatment can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, large pore size, uneven skin tone, rough skin texture, age spots, and other signs of sun damage without causing thermal damage to the surrounding tissue, allowing for faster recovery than with most ablative treatments.

A SINGLE FRACTIONAL ABLATIVE CO2 LASER IS EQUIVALENT TO FOUR ROUNDS OF NON ABLATIVE LASER TREATMENTS

Because the CoolPeel’s heat doesn’t go as deep as a traditional Co2 laser, which is often considered the gold standard in dermatology for treating wrinkles, it's not powerful enough to treat pronounced signs of aging, like deep wrinkles, in a single treatment session.

That being said, CoolPeel provides many of the benefits of traditional Co2 laser treatment, with minimal downtime.

In addition to treating the full face, this form of skin resurfacing is often used to target fine lines and wrinkles on the hands, neck, and chest, too.

Aside from being gold-standard solutions for sun damage and scars, ablative resurfacing lasers can destroy most, if not all, pre-cancerous cells in the skin.

The SmartXide Tetra is designed to deliver high peak power in extremely short pulses at low energy settings. The super-short pulse creates a controlled injury to the epidermis and superficial dermis with less heat build-up in the skin, offering an optimal level of ablation with minimal thermal damage to surrounding tissue. This allows for faster recovery and downtime than with most ablative lasers.

This technology delivers energy in a very rapid way, that confines the heat to a small thermal zone and causes damage that’s easily repaired within a few hours – and that’s quite literally what CoolPeel does. With CoolPeel, we are using much lower energy, but it’s achieving comparable results to other more aggressive treatments. The other advantage is less pain and discomfort during treatment; most patients don’t need topical anesthesia at all.

This technology also allows us to perform minimally aggressive or very aggressive treatments depending on the patient’s wants and tolerance for downtime. More patients want non-aggressive therapy so they can return to work the next day, and the CoolPeel’s high-peak low-energy H-pulse mode is ideal for achieving rejuvenation with low downtime. With the H-mode setting, we can do more with a less aggressive procedure.
