Meet Our
New South Providers
Dr. David Mendelsohn
Since 2002, Dr. David Mendelsohn has been practicing as a Family Medicine physician, with a focus on preventative medicine and managing common disease states such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression/anxiety and musculoskeletal injuries. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, where he double majored in Biology and Psychology and minored in Ancient Civilizations. Dr. Mendelsohn then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School Medicine.
After finishing his training, he joined a practice with Novant Health in Charlotte's Steele Creek area. Although he appreciated the leadership experience, Dr. Dave realized the difficulties of providing or receiving medical care within a large system. He wished he had more time to spend with patients in the office and through email or phone calls. Dr. Dave believes that the patient/doctor relationship is a team relationship and wants to ensure that his "teammates" are well-informed about their bodies and illnesses.
In his free time, he enjoys being with his family, including his wife Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn, who is also his boss, and their two sons. He also likes to watch and support the Tar Heels and Panthers, or go fishing on the lake.
Dr. Jason Perey
Dr. Perey was born in Philadelphia, PA but grew up in Charleston, SC. He completed a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at Clemson University and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Board certified in Family Medicine, he spent 10 years in a traditional high volume practice for a large hospital-based clinic at Atrium Health. During this time, he also served as adjunct faculty for University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
Now he looks to redirect his attention to a more relaxed and patient-centered primary care experience by delivering evidence-based care that is focused on wellness, lifestyle, and prevention. Dr. Perey believes medicine works best when it is personal, not transactional – and his commitment to building long term partnerships with his patients embodies the culture that New South is known for.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Perey can be found splinting broken arms and legs at his son’s football games, charting at his daughter’s gymnastics practice, and occasionally he can be spotted fly fishing in the NC mountains, going to Clemson football games, or having family beach time at his beloved hometown on Isle of Palms, SC.
